It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It’s also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…you just might discover the next “must-read” book!
Jen Vincent, of Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join us! We love this meme and think you will, too.
We encourage everyone who participates to support the blogging community by visiting at least three of the other book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.

Last Week’s Journeys
Kellee: YAY! Another good reading week! Maybe it is picking back up–during the first half of my pregnancy I had a really hard time concentrating and not falling asleep when reading, so it made it really hard to read; however, it seems recently that I have been able to read more and it feels great! First I finished girlchild by Tupelo Hassman and it is such a unique novel although I believe it is an adult novel that some young adults will enjoy.
I also read a ton of picture books and enjoyed each and every one of them!: Penguin on Vacation by Salina Yoon, Bogart and Vinnie by Audrey Vernick, Millie and the Big Rescue by Alexander Steffensmeier, a bunch of Seymour Simon books (Penguins, Cats, Gorillas, Extreme Oceans, Extreme Earth, Strange Mysteries, and Out of Sight) and some National Geographic books (Jimmy the Joey, Ye Olde Weird but True! and Space.)
Ricki: This week, I read Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Wow, wow, wow. This was a really good one. Rowell expertly captures the insecurities, relationships, and overall dynamics of college students. I loved it. I also reread Looking for Alaska by John Green for a class I am observing. It is always great to reread incredible books like this one.
This Week’s Expeditions
Kellee: I can finally read Allegiant!!! I am so excited! That is my only plan for this week! (Read This Dark Endeavor Ricki–everything he writes is amazing!)
Ricki: For the class I am observing, I am rereading Tyrell by Coe Booth. I absolutely love this book, so I am excited. I can’t decide what I will read next. I have always wanted to get to This Dark Endeavor by Kenneth Oppel. It feels like this is the week!

Glad you are having a better reading time, Kellee. I know you are near time for the baby, Ricki, but you seem to be busy reading great books, too! Looks like a good week of reviews! Thanks!
It is so crazy how a reading life can waver so much, but I am happy to be at a peak right now 🙂
Thanks, Linda. Reading is such a stress reliever for me that I can’t stop. It keeps me calm and also keeps my hormone levels in check, I believe. 🙂
Fangirl was a winner for me too. It dragged a bit during some of the fanfic, but otherwise, I loved it. Have fun with Allegiant. I tore through it. That is such a great series.
It is such a crazy series! I cannot wait to read the finale!
Also looking forward to reading Fangirl–it is in my pile 🙂
I completely agree. I didn’t love all of the fanfic, but the rest of the book was so wonderful, that I still gave it five stars. I am not a big fanfic girl, so I wasn’t surprised that those parts weren’t my favorites.
Both of the library copies of Allegiant are out, but I’ve told both readers to return the books at the very end of the day on a Friday so I might have a chance at it!
Good luck!! Then we can chat about it.
I am worried about taking out library books. If I get trapped in my house with the baby, I don’t want to have to worry about returning them. I am heading there tomorrow to do a return of all of my books, and I will try to close my eyes as I walk to the front desk.
I loved Fangirl, Ricki, and have heard good things about Girlchild, Kellee! Didn’t it win the award for adult books that young adults would enjoy? I forget what that award is called. I haven’t read Allegiant yet. I have it, but haven’t gotten to read it yet. I’m looking forward to it! Enjoy the phase of your pregnancy, Kellee! 🙂
Is it an Alex Award winner? I’ll have to go check that out. 🙂
I hope to enjoy this phase which will include Allegiant!
Looking forward to it.
Yes! That’s it I think! I think it just won this year.
Just looked it up and you are very right. I would agree with it being an Alex Award winner–it makes sense 🙂
I have had good success with Alex Award winners. I will have to check this out.
Kellee, I just saw your comment below my plans for next week. You make me laugh.
Fangirl is definitely on my list. I’m currently reading Allegiant.. I’m curious about the mixed feelings so many of my friends have had.
Me too–my students are such a mess about it!
Maria, we are opposites. I just finished Fangirl and Allegiant is on my list!
I loved HARLEM. I haven’t picked that book up in a while but your review made me want to read it again. 🙂
It is so amazing! Such a brilliant piece of art and literature!
Same here. I need to steal it from Kellee. 🙂
I am really looking forward to Fangirl – everyone is raving and I adored E & P Happy reading and resting to you both! Grow those little bookworms!
I cannot wait to read it as well!
Teehee. He is growing for you, Carrie!
Kellee, curious to see what you think of Allegiant! I enjoyed it overall. Ricki- I LOVED LOVED LOVED Fangirl! 🙂 Happy reading week to both of you!
It’s weird that I hadn’t read any of the books you two have mentioned. It’s Saturday and I’m only just doing the #IMWAYR’s. Until next time, happy reading!
