It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!

It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It’s also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…you just might discover the next “must-read” book!

Jen Vincent, of Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join us! We love this meme and think you will, too.

We encourage everyone who participates to support the blogging community by visiting at least three of the other book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.

 Last Week’s Journeys

Kellee: I am currently staying out at Disney World with Jim and Trent because my (crazy!) husband is running the Dopey (5K on Thursday, 10K on Friday, 1/2 maraton on Saturday, and marathon on Sunday). I will update you on my reading next week! Have a wonderful week!!!

Ricki: I read some great books this week! I finished Kekla Magoon’s How It Went Down. In light of the recent protests, this was an incredibly insightful book. The point-of-view shifts every 2-3 pages, which was very thought-provoking. This is the first book that I have completed from my #mustreadin2015 list. Yahoo!

Henry and I loved Matt de la Peña’s new picture book, Last Stop on Market Street. It is a beautiful book that we’ve read at least eight times this week. I can’t wait to review it. We also really enjoyed Peter H. Reynolds’ The Dot. We read two other picture books, but I don’t have a lot of nice things to say about them, so I am leaving them off of the list this week. I like to stick with the good recommendations! 🙂

Kellee: See above. I apologize in advance if I am not able to comment on as many posts as usual as well. Happy reading!

Ricki: I can’t decide which book to read next. Would anyone recommend a book I should put to the top of my #mustreadin2015 list? I’d like to tackle another in January to stay ahead of the game. I trust my blogger friends’ advice, and many of the books on that list are popular books that I just haven’t gotten around to reading!

  1. That Goofy thing is seriously crazy! A friend of mine is signing up too. Have fun cheering Kellee. Ricki, I would recommend Dreaming in Indian or Grasshopper Jungle. Dreaming is so gorgeous and the text is powerful. Grasshopper is a page turner. You have so many good ones on your list though that I don’t think you can go wrong. 🙂

    • Thanks, Crystal! I was actually hoping to read Dreaming next, and I didn’t think anyone would suggest it! Now that you’ve mentioned it, I will put it at the top of the list. 🙂 I am excited to get to it!

    • He is crazy! He actually does the Goofy plus! The Goofy is the half and full marathon, but he does the 5K and 10K too. It is so awesome to see him do it though 🙂 What an accomplishment!

  2. I’m looking forward to ‘market street’, & a whole lot of others too, of course. I need to read Grasshopper Jungle, too, Ricki,so will let Crystal’s recommendation stand. So many have praised it. Love that little picture of Henry! Kellee, from FB I didn’t know where you were-Best wishes to your husband!

  3. Hmm. Goofy run sounds quite different… thought my husband was crazy running the Vietnam Mountain Marathon but that… is much more. Anticipating reading Last Stop on Market Street now… thanks. Ricki, good luck figuring out “what’s next?” so much choice!! 🙂 Happy reading to you both…

    • Beth, confession: It is in our living room, so he keeps grabbing it and dragging it over to me. The only other books in our living room are about 30 board books, so he is mixing it up. 🙂

  4. Enjoy Disney! I think watching the Goofy sounds like a lot more fun that running all those miles.

There are so many good choices on your mustreads list. I did love, love, love County by 7s, but I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them–at least not with the ones I’ve read.

  5. Kellee–Have fun at Disney World! It looked like a successful and fun time from the pictures on Facebook. Ricki–I recommend that you read See You at Harry’s…just make sure you have a box of kleenex with you. Have a great reading week!

  6. Kellee, I hope your husband did well! I had to run 11 miles this weekend but b/c of the cold and ice, it was on a track. I said I would gladly have run 13 instead of 11 if I could have been at Disney! I’m running the Glass Slipper Challenge there in Feb.
Ricki, I have How it Went Down in my TBR pile. And I have Market Street from the library. Hoping to get to that this week. I highly recommend The Way to Stay in Destiny. Theo will stick to you a little bit like Felicity. 🙂

  7. Whoa what a series of runs! Sigh. Enjoy the time at Disney World with your little guy Kellee. Ricki – looking back at your #mustreadin2015 list, I recommend See You at Harrys too – such an emotional read.I went on to read everything Jo Knowles after reading this book.

  8. Kellee, that sounds just a little bit crazy to me! But then I couldn’t run a mile if my life depended on it. Well, I’m sure I could if my life depended on it, LOL. Ricki, I am looking forward to reading the Kekla Magoon. I think it’s on my #mustreadin2015 too. I was just thinking last night that I need to get started on some of that reading so I don’t get behind. I am excited about Matt de la Pena’s PB. I also love Christian Robinson’s art, so I will probably just end up ordering it for myself–despite my current resolution not to buy any new books until March 1.
