Top Ten Tuesday: Top New Series We Hope To Start At Some Point

top ten tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. The feature was created because The Broke and Bookish are particularly fond of lists (as are we!). Each week a new Top Ten list topic is given and bloggers can participate.

Today’s Topic: Top New Series We Hope To Start At Some Point

These series look so good! We hope we get to read them at some point.

Ricki

I saw Kellee’s list before I wrote mine, and I thought, “Oh. Yes, she should read those.” Kellee, I recommend Legend as your first series to start on your list! It is one of my favorites. Like Kellee, I am excluding series I need to finish. These are the series I have yet to begin.

1. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

harry1

Okay, it is time for everyone to freak out. I’ve never read this series. I am not sure why. I fell asleep during the first movie, so maybe it isn’t for me?

2. Cinder by Marissa Meyer

CInder

I really, really want to read this series. I haven’t started it yet, but I hope to soon.

3. The Diviners by Libba Bray

diviners

Libba is an incredibly talented writer, so I am sure this series is as great as I’ve heard it is!

4. Heist Society by Ally Carter

heist society

I’ve never read an Ally Carter book, but I’ve always wanted to check them out because they are so wildly popular.

5. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle

A Wrinkle in Time

I read this book when I was much younger and don’t remember anything about it. I’d like to reread it as an adult.

Kellee

This list could be 25 series long, but I kept it at 5. There are so many out there I want to read! (And this isn’t even including all the series I’ve started and need to finish!)

1. Legend by Marie Lu

legend

Everyone who has read this series loves it. I look forward to getting to it.

2. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

raven boys

Maggie Stiefvater writes some of the most unique books, and I always try to read what she writes.

3. Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld

leviathan

The Uglies series by Westerfeld is one of my favorites, and Leviathan fascinates me.

4. Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

pretty little

I love the show and the premise, so I assume the books will be very good.

5. The Selection by Kiera Cass

selection

This series is hugely popular with my students, and I am intrigued by the fairy tale-esque idea. (However, it does remind me of Princess Academy.)

Which series haven’t you started but hope to?

  1. I have The Raven Boys and the Cinders series both in my TBR pile! One day….
I do highly recommend the Harry Potter series. I was constantly surprised at how well written each story is and how Rowling could keep all the intricacies in her head!

  2. Maybe the Harry Potter series can be something you can read when your kid is old enough? It can be hard to start as an adult I think. And I can’t believe I haven’t read Cinder yet – it’s on my list too! The Diviners most resembles Bray’s Great and Terrible Beauty series, and it’s pretty dense, but in my opinion totally worth it! And both The Raven Boys and Leviathan are really imaginative and so much fun!

  3. I am freaking out a little bit that you haven’t yet read the Harry Potter series but will try to hide it:0). The Lunar chronicles is SUCH a fun read and the Diviners is a good book though I struggled with the characters quite a bit which diminished my enjoyment. I also have The Raven Boys and the Marie Lu series on my TBR as well!

    • HA! I love how you say you are “freaking out a little bit” about it. I really better read it if people are having visceral reactions to it. 🙂 That is good to know about The Diviners. I highly recommend the Legend series.

  4. Just have to say: I abandoned the first Harry Potter book the first time I tried to read it. But then I went back, finished it, and never looked back. Brilliant stuff. 🙂

      • You’re welcome. I originally wasn’t a fan. But then I made it through the first one. (Think of it like a pilot of a TV show. Sometimes the first one isn’t as good as the rest of the series is going to be.) Once I made it through, I never wanted to leave Harry’s world.

  5. What a list. You’ve managed to make me guilty. I still want to read the Cinder series, & Leviathan. I’d recommend Marie Lu & Maggie Stiefvater always. I’m waiting for the 3rd book coming out this week in The Raven Boys. She just writes so well. Thanks for the reminder of missed ones!

  6. My husband is reading Cinder right now! Sometimes I make him do the work of reading series and reporting back to me, because one of my reading confessions is that I really don’t like series–with one exception, Megan Whalen Turner’s series beginning with The Thief. When I saw this week’s Broke & Bookish topic, my first thought was none. Exactly none is the number of new series I want to start! Ricki, have you thought about listening to Harry Potter on audio? It’s wonderfully narrated by Jim Dale. Books 1 and 2 are, for me, the weakest of the series, and the movies are dreadful. (Book 3 is my favorite–as well as my favorite of the movies.)

  7. Ricki – Seriously, you’ve never read any Harry Potter??? (c’mon, you knew that was coming!). Wow. You really must. There is no one on earth who the series “isn’t for”. I’m not much of a fan of fantasy/magi in general, but it doesn’t matter – the series is just SO well-written. A Wrinkle in Time was my all-time favorite book when I was a kid. I read it multiple times and even got to be Meg (the main character) in our school play. It’s also an amazing book and a must-read. But, first, you have to read Harry Potter! lol

Kellee – The Raven Boys and the Leviathan series are both excellent – definitely give those a try. The audio of Leviathan is very good, but the illustrations in the books are amazing, so definitely don’t miss those.

Great lists! Lots of series you both listed that I need to get to also.
