  1. I can’t wait to see what everyone else chose as favorites! I love this list of books for the giveaway and would be happy with any of them.

  3. That was hard — and fun! How do you choose just one favorite read aloud, one favorite picture book, one favorite for the classroom library? Goodness! I’m so glad to join in the conversation and can’t wait to read the other posts. Congrats on your new blog and good luck with your launch. I look forward to watching it evolve.

  4. My favorite read aloud this past year was Wonder. My fifth graders just absorbed the message of the book. Any time a new student came in, we had to explain the book and everyone encouraged him/her to read the book. Even after the read aloud students checked it out and reread it independently.

    • I haven’t read the book yet, but I was actually considering this as a read aloud for my fifth graders this year. Were there any considerations with this particular text (any warnings for parents, for example)? This one is on my TBR list this summer.

      • No concerns at all. The story is complex because the characters all give their view points. The main character is going into the 5th grade for the first time after being homeschooled. I showed the book trailer to the students before hand and started a discussion about being different on the outside. I bawled when I read it to myself, so be prepared. I warned the students too. Nothing is more satisfying when you finish the book and the students clap and stand. You will NOT regret reading this beautiful story to your class.
