It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme started by Sheila at Book Journeys and now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It’s also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…you just might discover the next “must-read” book!
Kellee and Jen, of Teach Mentor Texts, decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join us! We love this meme and think you will, too.
We encourage everyone who participates to support the blogging community by visiting at least three of the other book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.

Have you read everything Eliot Schrefer has written? I have, and I cannot tell you enough to go get his books if you haven’t read them. His newest, coming out in September, is another brilliant book, and I need to tell you how unique and thought provoking it is! Fans of his and new Schrefer readers will not be disappointed.
Well, here is some honesty: TV has been my entertainment recently. I am reading some phenomenal books, but Orange is the New Black (just started it and have watched 2 seasons since summer started!), Big Brother, Masterchef, So You Think You Can Dance, and, unfortunately, The Bachelorette (when Jim decides to turn it on) are what my brain wants to do. I’ve also found some amazing love in coloring and LEGO building which has been great for my mindset. I still read some every day, but I am not finishing a book a day as I always hoped. And I’ve had some work to do most days since summer has started, so it is what it is. And you know what? This is reality, and I think that is my brain telling me that it needs a thinking break when I’m not working.

Have a wonderful week! I am spending time with family this week; see you next week!

I would say that summer days mean different things than the rest of the year, and to do different things is wonderful, Kellee. Hope both of you are enjoying some vacation time away from the ‘usual’!
A little tv is a welcome break when you do a lot of reading. Thanks for hosting. Have a great week!
I bought Orange is the New Black at a used bookstore years ago, but never got around to reading it. I don’t watch much tv so I’ve never seen the show. I’ll have to see if I can dig out the book.
I really need to pull out my coloring things and see if that helps! I’m not a TV person… just need the right book right now, I think 🙂
Ah, can you believe I’ve only read 1 Eliot Schrefer so far? I have 1 or 2 others on my shelf. Must try to get to them soon – I loved Endangered.
Isn’t OITNB amazing??? The next (and last) season starts at the end of July – I can’t wait!! You’ll see – each season just gets better & better.
Sounds like you are having a nice, relaxing summer – hey, at least you can color and do Legos with your son! Enjoy – it sounds very nice.

2018 Big Book Summer Challenge
I’ve not read any of Schrefers books, so far. But I’m going to remedy that soon. I’ve now added some to my list from our local library. I hope you’re both enjoying your summer in whatever ways work. We all need a break from our regular activities and some summer time of relaxing and TV-watching may be just what the doctor ordered. ENJOY!
Kellee,
I admit to having times when all I want to do is watch TV and crochet. The crocheting makes me feel less guilty about the TV part.
I’ve read at least one of Schrefer’s books but admit that it didn’t quite work for me.
Ricki,
Enjoy your time with your family.
Kellee, a book reco to tie in with the post from last week about books relating to immigration and to your current interest in Orange is the New Black:
In the Country We Love by Diane Guerrero
(Description from IndieBound:
The star of Orange is the New Black and Jane the Virgin presents her personal story of the real plight of undocumented immigrants in this country)

Happy Reading,
Margaret
I really like the look of A Possibility of Whales – we loved the first season of Orange is the New Black, but haven’t gotten around to watching the latest episodes yet. 🙂
