It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?
For readers of all ages
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly blog hop we host which focuses on sharing what we’re reading. This Kid Lit version of IMWAYR focuses primarily on books marketed for kids and teens, but books for readers of all ages are shared. We love this community and how it offers opportunities to share and recommend books with each other.
The original IMWAYR, with an adult literature focus, was started by Sheila at Book Journeys and is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date. The Kid Lit IMWAYR was co-created by Kellee & Jen at Teach Mentor Texts.
We encourage you to write your own post sharing what you’re reading, link up below, leave a comment, and support other IMWAYR bloggers by visiting and commenting on the other linked blogs.
Happy reading!

Young Adult

Lynn Painter’s Trust Fall is a sweet autumn romance. It delighted me, and I enjoyed the journey!

Frederick Joseph’s Everything’s Not Lost: Whew. This one is incredibly powerful. It’s about a girl who is grieving her sister’s overdose. Layered onto that grief is her belief that she should have been a better sister and not occupied her parents so often with her bipolar disorder. This one is very heavy, but it is a very important book that will benefit so many kids. I am really glad it exists.

Jennifer Lee & LeUyen Pham’s As I Dream of You is a graphic novel that is well-deserving of all of the stars it has earned! It is a bit of a retelling of Ovid’s Metamorphosis. This book is REALLY good.

I am so glad there is now a sequel to Aiden Thomas’ Cemetery Boys! Espíritu is a wonderfully exciting text that sends readers on an adventure!

Jonny Garza Villa’s Ander & Santi Were Here is a queer romance that isn’t about coming out (which I really appreciate as a reader!). It is about an artist who meets a beautiful teen who works in his family’s restaurant.
Adult Romance

I recommend both Carley Fortune’s Our Perfect Storm and Laurie Gilmore’s The Daisy Chain Flower Shop if you like sweet romances!
Adult

I did not want to read Belle Burden’s Strangers because I don’t like reading about divorce, but I must say, this book was really, really good. I am glad my book club pressured me to read it!

I absolutely adored The Road to Tender Hearts by Annie Hartnett. It reminded me a bit of a Fredrik Backman book. I loved the writing style!

I read Verity by Colleen Hoover because my book club was going to see it in the theater. I think this book will appeal to people who like horror, but I don’t like horror! 🙂

Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan is a quick book, but it packs a big punch! I liked the historical information that I learned!

GoodReads has challenges each year, and I was NOT looking forward to the horror challenge. I love Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery,” so I tried The Haunting of Hill House. I read this book at the same time as I reread some Poe, and they were really similar.

Wednesday: Sofia’s YA Book Nook: Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke
Sunday: Author Guest Post: “Why Children Need Stories That Make Room for Difficult Emotions” by Florentina Cosma, Author of Mina and the Recipe of Lost Emotions
