It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!

It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme started by Sheila at Book Journeys and now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It’s also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…you just might discover the next “must-read” book!

Kellee and Jen, of Teach Mentor Texts, decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join us! We love this meme and think you will, too.

We encourage everyone who participates to support the blogging community by visiting at least three of the other book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.

  • Property of the Rebel Librarian by Allison Varnes: Are there parents actually like this?! And if there are, I hope there are kids just like this also! Wow–the injustice behind the censorship in this book just takes my breath away and makes my blood boil. I hope this book helps show kids the importance of book importance and availability.
  • Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer: I definitely see why my students love this series. What fun fairy tale retellings! I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
  • Positively Izzy by Terri Libenson: I love the endings of both of Libenson’s books! And the structure of her books are unique and fun also. What great middle grade novels!
  • The Disappearance of Sloane Sullivan by Gia Cribbs: WHOA! Twists and surprises and romance and more twists–definitely a must read for your mystery YAL readers!
  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Meltdown by Jeff Kinney: Newest Greg Heffley story. Not my favorite, but just as much fun as the others.
  • Inkling by Kenneth Oppel: Kenneth Oppel never lets me down! He is one of the most underrated authors, and this book supports that as well. Inkling is creative, fun, special, and unique! A must read!

  • Dooby Dooby Moo by Doreen Cronin and Click, Clack, Quack to School by Doreen Cronin: We’re on a Coreen Cronin kick! I didn’t know she had so many books; thanks to Trent’s book exchange at school and my friend Erin, we’re expanding our repertoire!
  • Bob Books: Trent can read these, and I love it so much, and it makes me so happy!

Ricki

Unfortunately, I have to bow out for today. I’m sorry. Pregnancy is not kind this week!

  • Dog Man by Dav Pilkey: I am rereading Dog Man but this time with Trent. He saw this series at the bookstore and BEGGED me for it; how could I say no! And he finds it hilarious and loves being read it. So much fun!
  • Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns by Chris Colfer: Looking forward to seeing what happens next!
  • War Cross by Marie Lu: My students are going to be so excited that I am starting this!
  • Lost in the Antarctic: The Doomed Voyage of the Endurance by Tod Olson: How did I not know about this series!??! I am really loving this so far, and I’ll definitely be reviewing this for you!

  1. Kellee~ Yeah, I was kinda freaked by how her parents responded to her books — especially changing/rewriting portions of them. YIKES! And you have me even more excited about Inkling. I checked it out last week and hope, hope, hope I can get to it in the next two weeks because it sounds fabulous. And I am glad to hear you’re starting Warcross. I hope you enjoy it. Book #2 was really great and answered a lot questions I had at the end of book #1.

Ricki~ You just take care of YOU, girl. You’re growin’ a baby! YAY! <3

  3. I have not yet read any of the books in The Land of Stories yet. I don’t really know why! I just started hearing about Lost in the Antarctic. I didn’t know about the series either. It sounds interesting.

  4. Hush Up and Hibernate looks like a fun read. I just put it on hold at my library. I loved Inkling as much as you! I have a few of your recent reads on my TBR stack and hoping to share my thoughts soon. Have a great week!

  5. Hey, I didn’t realize you were pregnant again, Ricki! Congratulations!!! 🙂

My oldest son and I both enjoyed Kenneth Oppel’s books when he was younger – I need to get back to him – haven’t read any in ages!

And I love Doreen Cronin! Her first, Click, Clack, Moo, came out when my youngest was picture-book age, and we just loved it! So clever! But that means I only saw her first few books – seems I have missed quite a few. I might have to browse thropugh the picture book section of the library just for fun one day 🙂

Enjoy your books and thanks for hosting!

  6. Property of the Rebel Librarian and Inkling are both on my TBR list. Sometimes, I kind of like being a rebel! I just ordered the Lost book today from Scholastic. I’ve read Lost in the Pacific and it was really good. Hopefully this one will be just as good.

  7. After reading your comments about Property of the Rebel Librarian I am very sorry that I had it checked out of the library, but had to return it unread!I just discovered that my library now has it as an audiobook so I’ll try it that way. Inkling is on my MustRead list this year so I hope to get to it.
    Congratulations Ricki!

  8. A Song for Gwendolyn Brooks looks gorgeous! I am really hoping that we get a copy immediately here in Singapore the minute it’s out. Sounds perfect for our #WomenReadWomen2019 reading theme too!
PS: Ricki, I hope the pregnancy is way better this week! Hope you have more time to read! 🙂

  9. Kellee, you’ve been a reading machine! I’m jealous! I’m so glad you enjoyed Inkling, I love when a book I’m reading turns out to be way more fun than anticipated. I should have known with Oppel, his books are fascinating!
Ricki, I hope you are well and this week is better for you.
